First Semester of My College Life with My Roommate

I woke up in the morning with full of excitement as it was the day that I had waited for my whole life. It was the 30^th of May 2017. My parents brought me to my college all the way from Johor because it was the first day of my college life. My college was located in the middle of our capital city, Kuala Lumpur. The name of my college was XYZ College. When I reached the college, my family was briefed by my counselor, Mr. Lam. He helped me to do my registration for my first semester. After that, he brought us to look around the college. It was magnificent! The college was huge and better than what I was expected.

Next, I was told to enter the hostel which located not far away from the college. It was a condominium which consists of 19 stories and 3 blocks. When I reached the hostel, I saw a girl walked behind me and then entered the same hostel with me. After that, I introduced myself to my housemates. We sat in the living room chit chatting for hours to know each other’s background. I think that my hostel was unique than the rest because it consists a different kind of races such as Malay and Indian. The girl who I mentioned just now was my roommate and she is on the same course with me which is Diploma in Business Administration.

The next day, this typical girl lost her mobile phone. It was a cheap mobile phone but an iPhone 7. As we knew that, iPhone was the most expensive mobile phone in this globalization. She started to lost trust against one and other because it was just the second day she lived in this hostel. She managed to gain my trust as I am not the pocket thief because I am her roommate and me always by her side the day before. When we got to college, I helped her to report this issue to the student affairs as they were the people in charge of our hostel. The student affairs took action such as having a spot check in the hostel not once but twice even when nightfall. Unfortunately, she still could not find her mobile phone.

The first day of our college life was our orientation day. She brought me to have a breakfast at the college. She also accompanied me all the day because I did not have any friends in this college. On the orientation day, there was a game which was organized by the people in charge. It was a treasure hunt game. All of us was separated into several groups. The game consists of the tongue twister, puzzle solving and much more. All of us enjoyed ourselves.

Time flies. Another month had passed. We were having a week holiday. I had been invited to my roommate’s house in Kuala Selangor. I have never been there before and I was very excited about this trip. When we arrived, she brought me to Pantai Remis to witness the sunset and we took a lot of photos as a memento. The next day, we went to Perpustakaan Raja Tun Uda for searching our assignment references. At the night of that day, she suggested us to see the fireflies at Kampung Kuantan with her younger brother. I agreed that as I never seen it before. When I saw the fireflies, I felt excited and wanted to catch the fireflies but at that time we were on the boat, so I could not do this. The third day, we went to Sekinchan for seeing the sun rises. We also had our lunch at N.16 Café with bus theme. The food at there was delicious, if next time I go to Sekinchan again, I will try it again.

Coincidentally, I am just older than her 1 day. My birthday was at 23^rd of September and she was at 24^th of September. But unfortunately, our birthday was on our semester break that would lead us could not celebrate our birthday together due to we have to back to our hometown, so we celebrated it early. We have a lot of mutual friends and they celebrated our birthday by giving us an unforgettable birthday surprise. They brought us to Mid Valley shopping first then have hotpot as dinner at Puchong. At that time, two of my friends found an excuse as they need to buy something. But at the end, actually, they were going out for bought our birthday cake secretly.

She has many hobbies. One of her hobbies is eating and she is also a spicy lover. The every meal that she eats must put the chili, if not, she will not eat it. Other than that, she also likes to play the piano. She already achieved Grade 5 of the piano standard. When she has free time, she will play my favorite song for me by using a piano. She likes to drawing and coloring and she had taken part in many competition of drawing and coloring. I feel proud of her. She had won a series of awards before she continues her education at XYZ College. Although she does not take place in any competition now, she is still drawing in the hostel when she is free.

4 months of friendship and still counting, I am very happy that I can make friend with her. After I met her, I felt that I have totally changed my lifestyle and my temper. Before that, I always played phone until midnight then just have a bad. But now, we have promised to each other that we must revision before sleep and must sleep before 11 pm every night.

True friendship multiplies the good in life and divides its evils. Strive to have friends, for life without friends is like life on a desert island… to find one real friend in a lifetime is good fortune; to keep her is a blessing.
